sonia, i used to think like you--that the higher the concentration i could handle the better. i was doing 10% pretty much straight and could get a ton of stuff up with it. however, when i went into the hospital recently with as many asthma as CF symptoms, one of the things my doctor suggested was to cut the strength of my HS. i'm now doing the normal 6%-7% and my small airways are a lot happier! it may have been affecting my lungs when i didn't realize it, in other words.

the strange thing is that i hadn't just started the 10%--i have been doing it for well over a year with no problems. there was a combination of factors coming into play, and maybe in the future it would be a good experiment to see of doing a stronger % would cause the same results.

Laura,

Thanks for the info. Actually, I think I AM doing 7% as that is what was prescribed to me.. And, I'm mixing it as it specifies... the funny part about my situation was when I first started getting the Rx from CF Services, they sent 10% and 3% and now with no change in the Rx they are sending 10% and .9%. ???? The directions were always the same - Mix 4 mL 10% with 2 mL .9%... The strange thing was that I was using 3% as the .9% for a few months without realizing it until I refilled it and they sent the RIGHT stuff. Weird.

Anyway, I deff. agree with you about not doing too high concentration without some serious consultation with a doc. As my doc said when I asked about this... instead of doing a higher concentration to get results like I used to, I should only do it every other day at the 7% (or 8% if I can handle it). So, this is what I do now.

Anyway, glad people are seeing results with this... What a GREAT thing to come along for CF!!!

Hmmm-my CF clinic told me to mix all of the .9% (which is 3ml) with 6ml of the 10%. So is this 7%?? Why are some of you mixing only 2ml of the .9%?

Oops-nevermind, I just noticed that you are doing 4ml of the 10% with 2ml of the .9% <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
