My CF doctors always told me not to use either.
The bacteria that can grow in one is high, and when you see the mist coming out, who knows what is being pumped into the air. We tried putting a piece of black paper in front of one... yuck. Now some of that could be calcium, but do you want to inhale it?

What we did at my house and stilll do is soak some towels and put them around the house on drying racks... works great.
