I think is from having the solution in your lungs, depending on how many ml's you nebbed. I do this along with the vest either at the same time or immediately afterwards, seems to help clear me out

Amy if you didnt do it, make sure you do an albeuterol before your saline. Saline can irritate the lungs causing bronchial spasm. I do my albeuterol & pulmicort before my saline. I personally love the saline. When I first started it, I coughed my head off everytime I used it for the first week. It isnt as bad now. I did have some burning in my throat initially, but nothing to really complain about. I figured it was clearing up all the crap that drips/sits in my throat..........

Hi I was wondering if anyone feels that they have more mucus with doing the 7% saline or maybe its just me and am battling an infection. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I dont think I have anymore. I do think it keeps it loosened up longer. In the morning it use to be hard for me to get anything up before doing an aeresol. Now I bring stuff up before, during & after! About the same amount altogether!

I hope the Saline workd well for you Amy! My 1st dose was last Wed!

Again-expect burning. It burned alot for me, I felt like I was inhaling toxic gas, but they said that's normal.

Actually, I do experience more mucus when and after I use it. Alot more. The first time I used it I felt this rumbling down in my lower lobes. (where I never feel anything), and all the sudden this glob came up. It hasn't happened that obviously since, but I definately spit up tons more.

I hope you get good results! Yeah!!! Another 20 minutes added on to our therapy!! Whoopee!

I may have an infection, but I can't hardly get through saline. It
takes an hour to finish 4ml, because of all the coughing and I
usually cough for an hour after. I feel good for the next 8-12
hours, but I've only used it a few times because of all the
coughing. I wonder if I would tolerate 3percent better, or do you
have to mix the two.

The recommended dose is 7%, but it comes already packaged in 3%, 5% & 10% so if you feel the 7% is too strong, there are lower % you can try. I am sure like many other things, it wont work for everyone the same way!

I was told, that you can also mix it to get used to a higher percentage slowly.

Hi,

I went to CF clinic today, I have been nebbing 3% saline, though it makes me cough my head off my PFTS are now over 100%. I Have never had PFTS over a 100 before.

I am thrilled with the results, though I do suffer for about an hour after I inhale it.

How do you get hypertonic salene? Does your doctor have to give you a Rx?

I am kinda in between cf centers. There is not really one where I live, so I drove to another state, and my doc. left after the hurricane. So, I am going to another state in June. But, I know at my last appt. my lungs had dropped a bit. I wanted to try something before I went to see this new doc. I wanted to get my lungs back up and I wanted to surprise him <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

how many times a day do you have to do it, to see a benefit?

Anybody have any tricks on getting there pft's up?
