Hypertonic Saline Dosage help

Hello everyone. My name is Anthony. I am 26 yr old male w/ cf. I just got prescribed some Hypertonic saline 3% solution in 15ml vials. My recomended dosage is 3 ml twice a day. This requires me to twist open a 15ml vial and only consume 6 ml of the saline a day. Is it ok to leave the vial open due to not using all 15ml at once? I am just worried about it not being sterile anymore sitting in the box, not covered or refrigerated.

Hi Anthony I am 14 and use the same amount of hypertonic saline 3% in 15 mil vials too. U should only use the 3ml and then throw the vial away. your right about keeping it sterile and fresh!

Erm, I'm gonna go against the rules for a bit. I know we're supposed to throw it away after using only the 3 ml (or in my case 5ml) but I don't. It just seems like such a waste to me (yeah I know, it's only salt water, but its salt water that I'm paying for!) Anyway, i'm not reccomending this, and I know my doctor wouldn't be happy if he found out, but I just keep 'em and use them the next day. <img src="i/expressions/nebulizer.gif" border="0"> =-)

Get some alchohol prep pads and wipe the end off before you use the rest. It will be fine. I get mine but I have to mix it all myself and keep it in a huge and I mean huge syringe. I have to mix 30ml at a time and only use it as needed so I have gone several days with it in the syringe. Twist off top BTW, so it does have an opening like a vial. I just wipe it down with the pads.

I open the bottle in the morning - use 5ml - and then put the cap back on and put it in the fridge. I then use another 5ml from that bottle in the evening. Use a fresh one each day.

I'm on the same 3% saline, I only use 3ml once a day. I also get them in the 15ml plastic twist off tube. I don't open them, I just take a syringe and poke the plastic and withdraw the 3ml I need each day until it's gone. Don't know if this is bad or not, but I've been doing it for awhile...
