This morning I woke up to a sharp pain just under my rib cage. It was sharp enough to cut my breathing off.

Has anyone experienced this or know what this could be?</end quote></div>

I'm with Amy. It sounds like gallbladder. People with gallbladder flare-ups often think they are having a heart attack. Its suppose to be awful.

Maybe you should have it checked out?

Let us know how you are.

Thanks guys. I've already had my gallbladder removed. Luckily this pain is nothing compared to gall stone pain.

This morning the pain seems a bit better, but it's still there. I looked up all the symptoms to the other suggestions you've all mentioned, and I wonder if it's pleurisy. I've had it before, but this seems odd since I'm not really coughing much, and it came about so suddenly. I've never had a collapsed lung before, but I would be shocked if it were that b/c ...well, that would be shocker. I also doubt that it's pneumonia, although I do know that walking pneumonia can be a silent litte critter when you don't realize you're sick.

I wonder if bronchiectosis causes this type of thing. With scarring and cysts developing and growing, maybe you can actually feel it, not sure.

Well, I'm hoping this just passes by the end of today. I guess since I don't feel sick and I'm hardly even coughing, that I'm not too worried, just very curious (and a little anxious, lol).

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I hope you are feeling better!!

Your symptoms sound a lot like those I have had before!

A few questions....

1. Does it hurt to take a deep breath and are you currently short of breath even at rest?

2. Do you have a feeling of movement in your chest when you bend over or roll around when lying down?

3. Are there certain positions you can put your body in that makes the discomfort less apparent?

If you answered yes to questions 1 and 2 you probably have a partially collapsed lung. Get it xrayed right away!!

A pulled muscle or compression of tissue between your ribs can also be the source of your discomfort. This can happen to anyone that is thin, from sleeping in an odd position or twisting your body in an unusual way. A pulled or compressed muscle will often not show signs of stress until sometime after the injury. Nurve endings in the rib cage if gently massaged can often bring temporary relief.

I would say that if your symptoms get worse or persist for that matter, it would be wise to see a doctor.

Best wishes!!

P.S. If you want to learn about my experience with this kind of thing please feel free to leave me a personal message or email me.

I wasnt sick either, actually I was doing the best I had been in months. It came on suddenly without any warning or coughing. I never had one before either and I was shocked as well. But Pete's questions are right on target. If you answer yes to any of them, get to a hospital for an xray. To be honest, I still wouldnt hesitate to get an xray. It should rule out most of the things that have been suggested. Hope u get feeling better soon.
