Hi Everyone,

Like the title above says - I got a port for my birthday this year. Now I just want to know from people that have them, what I can do and cannot do with my port. It will still be accessed for another week, but then can I use my arm like normal? This is all a bit new to me. Are you on a blood thinner with your port, if so is that a permanant thing? Any information, advice, suggestions you can give me I would really appreciate.

Thanks in advance

No, I have had many PICC's, this is a port, sometimes they call it a 'passport". I don't really know the difference. The port can stay in my arm for a minimum of 5 years they say. I think that it is very similar to a chest port, but with it being in my arm, I just wondered if I have to do anything different.

I dont know anything about ports, but i wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday <img src="i/expressions/present.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
MY nurse mentioned to me about getting a port in my arm when the need arises. How was the process if you dont mind me asking? Did you have to go to sleep for it? Or did they use local? Did you have to lay flat when the did it? how long did it take? Thanks.....
