Just plain old good luck, perfect timing...
Came out on my normal route at a random time, and ran smack into someone committing felony larceny. They fled, LT and I pursued. A whole bunch of colored lights, and chaos ensued. I covered a ton of distance on foot, and on bike, over varied terrain. It's a real good feeling, as a 36 year old CF patient, knowing that you just physically out performed a very young (maybe 23) year old male on a cross country challenge. Alas, due to reasons that have nothing to do with me, he wasn't apprehended. This happened nearly 3 hours ago, and I'm STILL way amped on adrenaline. When I first made contact with the suspect, he sized me up visually when he knew I knew his story was complete BS. He was weighing the merits of fighting or fleeing. He chose flee, then the fun was on. Wow, what a rush. We went from private property, to highways, across highways over medians with hip high erosion guards, through stores, and finally private residences. I was laughing a good deal of the time while chasing this turd. One because it reminded me of the chase scene in the movie Raising Arizona (where the main character robs some huggies from a little store and everyone is chasing him), and the other because I was physically out working him, and he was much younger than me, and CF free (and much smaller than me).
I was so filled with adrenaline when it was over, I could barely write the report for the situation. A black officer friend who came in on the later shift heard about it all, saw me and my amped state, and said "You are one seriously crazy white boy", and I LOL'd, cause it's true. Oh well, i'm sure i'll now be up till 8am waiting for this rush to go away...And if i'm not fully awake now, i'm huffin down my albuterol...heh.
