I have mold too!

A few days ago, I realized the bathroom sink was leaking pretty
badly, but it was dripping down the pipe and under the bathroom
cupboard (or vanity?) that holds the sink. It must have been
leaking for some time, because it was a very slow leak, but there
was a lot of moisture trapped under there, and a lot of black mold.
We have since fixed the leak, and we used shims to hold it off the
floor so it can dry out, and have been using mold and mildew
cleaner and bleach to kill it. It is about a 2x2 foot area, under
the cupboard and in the bathroom, so I wasn't too concerned about
it affecting Vinny. He really only goes in the bathroom to take a
bath, otherwise the door is shut.
I've been reading the two other threads about mold and now I'm
freaking out. One specifically mentioned black mold. Do I need to
be doing more? Should I let Vinny's dr. at the clinic know? He's
been trying to fight off a cough for over a month that the dr.
can't seem to figure out what's causing it. He's done several
rounds of anti's and steroids, but always gets worse again as soon
as the med is stopped. What would you recommend?

Typically they do not run a mold panel unless you ask for one, so I would mention it. Keep on top of it to, if the mold keeps coming back then replace the fixture.

We've fixed the leak. I just called and asked the CF nurse if this
could be what's causing this stubborn cough, she said it's
definately a possibility. She said the last culture, a little over
a week ago, grew nothing but staph (he almost always grows staph)
The landlord had originally just propped up the vanity to let the
air get in to dry out the mold, but I know even dead mold spores
can cause allergic reactions (I've been researching molds and CF
all day). If I look under there with a flashlight I can see all the
mold, I just can't get to it. I cleaned everywhere I could reach
with bleach. The clinic said the vanity needs to be pulled out
so everywhere can be properly cleaned, preferably by professionals.
(Say that 5x fast!!) If he won't do it, I can call and they'll send
a letter, if that doesn't work they'll call the health dept. I
don't think it will come to that. The landlord is a relative, and I
think he just doesn't know about how bad it is for a CFers lungs.

Can you believe I actually had a dream last night about mold? It
was growing out of the bottom of the fridge, but like the mold
version of The Blob! I must have went to sleep with it on my mind.
I actually went to check the drip pan under the fridge just in case
this morning! (Although I found out my fridge doesn't have
one??)
I've told the landlord what the CF docs recommend, so now my
question is: What's a reasonable amount of time to give him to get
it done. He doesn't want me doing it myself. Basically the area
under the cupboard needs to be cleaned and the cupboard itself, or
a new one. It's growing about 4-5 in. up the wall and on the floor
about a 2-3 square foot area, and all over the bottom and insides
of the cupboard. It's black and slimy and gross!!

Where a dust mask when cleaning. It will not prevent the fumes but it might prevent you from inhaling mold in the air.
