If You HAVE to Skip SOMETHING...

If I skip something, it is usually the vest too, because I can "replace" it with something I can stick in my pocket and take it with me- my Flutter or my Quake or, forgetting those, huff coughing, etc.

Some days I combine my vest and Xopenex/HS, and some days I cut down from 5 mins. for each vest setting (usually 30-35 mins.) to 3-4 mins each if I have time to do that much.

I got the Pari Trek so I could do my nebs on the run if I need too, and hopefully not have to skip any (though I try to use it very rarely with Tobi/Colistin or Pulmozyme, but on those days, I figure something is better than nothing . I do have to let the Trek "cool down" completely before I start a Tobi though).

1. Skip exercise.
2. Skip sleep.
3. Skip HTS nebs
4. Skip Xopenex nebs
5. Skip Pulmozyme nebs
6. Skip ABX oral meds <-- No reason for this to happen as pills only take a few seconds to swallow!!

Unfortunately I seem to skip 1 & 2 way too often, though I do on weekends attempt to make it through an entire episode of CSI on the exercise bike as punishment for missing any of my 20 minutes of daily exercise. With my PariTrek I haven't had to skip 3,4,5 yet, though I've only been doing regular nebs for a few months. Check back in a year and my answers might change!

Pulmozyme.

This is the only thing that I skip, and it seems to happen about once a week.

I am SHOCKED that some of you don't feel results immediately from the vest. I do the vest along with HS three times a day and cough up a bunch of stuff always. I would probably skip the vest if I didn't notice it helping me too.

I do three vest/neb treatments a day. If one of them has to go, it's usually the afternoon treatment. It's extremely rare, like a handful of times per year, but it happens sometimes when I'm traveling. Normally my afternoon treatment consists of xopenex, pulmozyme and the vest. So what I do is move the pulmozyme to the morning or evening and skip the vest. Then I use my xopenex puffer inhaler if I need it.

That's it! That's the only wiggle room I allow in extreme situations. My treatments in the morning and evening take about an hour and in the afternoon they take about a half hour. So I'm all strapped up 2.5 hours a day, everyday. I can't afford not to be with my precarious health over the last three years and a baseline FEV1 of 1.5 liters.
