I'm talking at Great Strides

So I think I know what I will talk about but was hoping to hear some ideas and others experience/perspective.

Parents always want to hear from me because I do well and am pro-active in my health. Everyone is always wanting to know about having a full time job and husband/child.

I think what I want to talk about is my increased compliance since having a child and its affects.

So give me some ideas of what you think. I want to:
1-keep it positive
2-keep it interesting
3-not be 'all about me'
4-not alienate those families wiht members who have a harder course

They slotted me a LONG time to tlak but I am keeping it short and sweet I was thinking just a few minutes.

We have never had a 'speaker' in way of a parent or cf'er at my walk so I am really not sure what to do!

First, thank everyone. Talk about some recent advances that could not have happened without previous Great Strides walks. Talk about what the money buys - most will know this, but some won't, and you can use your own med list as an example. Talk about the life expectancy you were given at birth and compare it to your reality.

But, caution people that with all the wonderful things that have happened in the CF world, there is still a long way to go. I want to do my montage next year with a series of comparisons...

For every cf patient who gets to graduate from college, one dies in elementary school
For every cf patient who lands his or her dream job, one will not cross the stage at hight school graduation
For every cf patient that becomes a parent, one will not live long enough to marry.
Children still need oxygen tanks on hand to participate in sports. Parents still lie awake wondering over thier children's futures. There is still work to do and we must continue to ...yadda yadda yadda.

Probably a bit melodramatic for a Great Strides...it's just some thoughts that have been rolling around in my head.

Definitely thank them and definitely tell them about the advances and all that. Even if they know, it is great to reiterate why they are all there. If they are doing the walk then they know someone with it (total assumption but I am sure its not far off) and they are most likely aware of how it affects that person. Talk about those things you have in your life - hubby, child, job, and express how it wouldn't be possible without the support of the generosity of those standing before you (I used something similar at my benefit and people seemed to really like it). And like Tami said, talk about how there is still so much that needs to be done.

Best of luck to you and I am sure you will do awesome!!!!

sorry should have said they always have somoene talking about all of that stuff, not to downplay it, thats the most important part. I am more of the 'personal feel' speaker. She asked me to speak because she heard "I have an inspirational story and alot knowledge and unique viewpoint".

I will double check with them to make sure someone is speaking on the other stuff and they didnt want to roll it all into one but it was my understanding that was not part of 'my part'.
