Incorporating Heat in your Treatment Routine

Happy Friday Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone else uses "Heat" to help break up or "melt" their mucus?

For example, before a treatment, or when I am waiting on Albuterol to kick in, I'll drink some hot tea and place a heating pad on my chest. It seems like this helps melt the mucus in my chest and makes it easier to cough up. Sometimes I'll even do the heating pad, hot tea, and break out the electric blanket. It FEELS so GOOD!

I feel like with that, and the HS, I am coughing up so much more than just HS without the heating pad first. Anyone else do this? Or something similar?

Never thought of that. Interesting.

I'm a bleeder, and heat (like jacuzzi's, etc) can thin the blood and make it more difficult to clot, so I shy away from things like that.

But for those who aren't, sounds interesting....

It would make sense to me because when I am active (exercise or just moving around) I am warmer & cough up more stuff then if idol & a bit cooler.

I dont think I could go to the extreme of putting a heating pad on my chest, but I see a difference if I take a hot shower THEN do my vest. And trust me my showers are HOT.......

I have heard before that drinking warm liquids can help loosen up a cough, so when I am feeling congested I have a cup of cocoa, and that seems to help a bit. Hmmm, maybe you just made my case for getting a heated throw! lol I do my flutter at the end of my shower too, when I am sick, and that works great too (and, like Melissa, I take hot showers!)
