infertile

affects both men and women. At least 97 percent of men with cystic fibrosis are infertile.[13] These men make normal sperm but are missing the tube (vas deferens) which connects the testes to the ejaculatory ducts of the penis.[14] Many men found to have congenital absence of the vas deferens during evaluation for infertility have a mild, previously undiagnosed form of CF.[15] Twenty percent of women with CF are infertile as a result of thickened cervical mucus, which interferes with the passage of sperm. In severe cases, malnutrition disrupts ovulation and causes amenorrhea.

I got that off of Wikipedia...men produce normal sperm, is there not a way to go to a medical center of some kind for them to retrive the sperm and then implant it into the woman?

Absolutely there is!!! There are many people here who have done that, including Julie. I would suggest you go to her website, cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com She and her husband just went through the entire process and have triplets now <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> There is a lot of information that julie has compiled for general public and her own journal of experience with the process.

Be well.

hey djotroy17, i am as sterile as a eunich but found out i still made sperm but had absence of the vas just as you discovered! i found an infertility clinic that was game to try sucking the sperm from my testicle and BINGO they got enough sperm to fertilize my wifes eggs! that was 10 years ago and i have two boys now aged 7 and 9 (Ben and Jesse James) and are they just the ducks guts to me!!! both carry the defective cf gene but as my wife was not a cf carrier (of the known mutations anyhow) it was not possible for them to have cf.so there you go mate, children are an option however there are many many variables to consider before having kids. that being said i am happy to be one cf guy to let you know kids are a possibility and there are now many more proud dads with cf out there. one last thing, at least my wife and i dont have to worry about birth control! we had pre-natal classes and birth control was one of the topics discussed (bit late for that i thought, but there you go!) so as to avoid an early pregnancy after the birth of the previos child i guess?? anyway different tecniques and methods were put forth. we were asked for our method of birth control and everyone looked at me like i was a lunatic when i replied congenital absence of the vas-deferens!! we all had a good laugh when we explained.
