Inhaled Vancomycin

I am having a hard time getting the search function to work on the site...so I will just ask.

Can any of you share your experiences, good or bad, with inhaled vancomycin? I have just been prescribed it on my off months of Tobi to help control staph. I would love to hear anything anyoneh as to offer. I am very hopeful that it will help me have a better winter this year!

Hi Christina,

I posted about this a while ago. My doctor and I considered it but decided on more frequent IV usage instead since there's so little data on inhalation use.

Here are some interesting related threads.

Crystal, What did you decide....did you do inhaled vanco to see this increase from 50s to 90s? Please inform us and also your doctor should consider publishing his/her positive results your treatment yielded.

I decided against it, at least for now.

My doc. wasn't too happy when I told him that I wanted to exhaust my other options before trying it. I started Bactrim back in November/end of October and have been on a maintenence dose since. For the first 4 weeks I took the Bactrim and Cephlex 3x a day, and now I take just Bactrim 2x a day. I started this because I cultured Steno Malt. back in October. The plan is to stay on this maintenence dose until April. At that time my doc. wants me to reconsider the Vancomycin. I am not sure what I will do at that time.

In addition to the above abx, I also started drinking a TON more water and I increased my fizzy NAC to 5x a day. Personally, I have noticed a huge difference in my mucus clearance on this regimine.

I must say, my lung function increase has a very unexpected shock to me. I have gained about 13 lbs and over all feel more energized and better. My o2 sats are even stable at about 98%, which is not normal for me. Over the past few years I haven't seen above 95%. I think Steno Malt. has been sitting in my lungs for awhile now and I just recently cultured it...and started treating it.

Thanks for asking! I hope to maintain it!
