Insulin during pregnancy

Wow, this is something I haven't thought about at all! My CF team hasn't mentioned it to me either (they know we are TTC). I have never had a GTT before - I wonder if I should mention this at my next appointment (if we aren't PG by then). Is the risk still there for people who are PS?

I'm PS and had very mild/borderline GD. Of course I'm 37 years old so that put me at risk even without mild CF. The GTT is done later in pregnancy when your hormone levels are higher and it's routine. For me maintaining/gaining weight on the GD diet was a bit difficult so we modified the diet to allow me a little more carbs and I used to eat when I woke up in the middle of the night. My sugars were almost entirely under control. The biggest issue was my sugars dropping when I woke up in the morning so I had to eat immediately. I delivered a full term 8.5 pound girl.

I also got GD and was on insulin. It actually wasn't bad at all- I was dreading the shots and they were fine. My doctor said that GD is more likely in pregnant CFers than in regular pregnant women. We are also a lot more likely to keep having diabetes after pregnancy than regular women that get GD. But mine went away when I gave birth (although I will still need to be re-checked after I stop breastfeeding, b/c apparently that keeps your sugars low).
