insurance question

I am a stay at home mom and my husband is self employed. Therefore we have a consumer insurance plan. luckily, we already had the plan when my daughter was diagnosed.

my question is...when I get a job and get group insurance what happens if we need to go back to a consumer plan. will my daughter be denied b/c of her CF or will the rates just be outrageous? Should we leave her on the consumer plan even when I get a group policy or would she have to be underwritten again?

I don't want to get a job until I have to but I think the time is approaching and I want to make sure she has the best plan possible

thanks for any advice

there are certainly people on here who know a lot more about this than me... but the way i understand it, private insurance can deny you with a prexisting condition whereas ones through where you work cannot.

good luck.

Acutally, since HIPPA came along, your daughter cannont be denied by a work or private plan if she has been covered all along and there is NO gap in her medical coverage (this includes Medicaid coverage in your state too). They can have a waiting period for a preexisting condition, I believe there is a maximum amount of time set, but the standard is 90 days, so plan visits and medications around that- but no denials unless she has had a period where she had no insurance coverage.

It's the portability part of HIPPA that makes this possible. Good luck in your searches,
