Insurance questions

Hello everyone!
Ihave read so much great info on here.... we really appreciate it!
We have a 4yr old son with CF and we currently qualify for state assistance insurance. We have the opportunity to make more money... not enough to seriously change our lives, but more and it will take us out of the guidelines to qualify for his coverage. I'm so confused as what to do. His health is most important, but I don't want to feel as if we aretaking advantage. We all know how expensive all the tratments are. Please tell me your thoughts on the subject.

Thank you so much!
Mom to Liam, 4 w/CF DDF508

How would the medical coverage be through the employer? If your copays, premiums & co-insurance are going to be higher than the difference that the new job offers I would stay with your initial plan. Something else to consider is once you are accepted to state aid, and you decline it, I feel like I have heard it is heard to then change your mind and get them to cover. For what it's worth - that's my 2 cents!

We have really good insurance but even with that, with his supplemental nutrition drinks (not covered) and the co-pays, it is cheeper for us to pay the "premiums" for the State's supplemental "special needs insurance" than th co-pays, etc. (I am very prudent, though--I do mail order and the headache of getting reimbursed since it saves the State like $30,000 a year than if I went to our local pharamacy; and it was a headache and when I called the State for help they said "we prefer you just use the pharamacy and I'm like DO YOU understand that would cost the state another $30K???) Our state does not have any income limits for it and my thought is that I'd rather he be on it uninterrupted b/c if they later change the rules, they often "grandfather" folks in and in the future our son might need it. So if I were in your situation, I'd likely stick to what is working unless this is something of a professional advancement/personal desire.

Speak with the Social Worker at your clinic. Ours had put us in touch with a CF organization that helped a lot with copays and suppliments.
