Although I have not had the opportunity to read the full-text of this study, the abstract states that the mucins that were examined were from the "sputum". The quality or contents of mucus in the lower airways might be of a different consistency.
Non CF people have more mucus-making proteins in their sputum - wouldn't that be because they can cough it up? CF people may have these proteins trapped in their airways because they CAN't cough it up as easily.I don't know. The article didn't stir up much excitement for me. But it wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
This article is written about a study performed at a highly credited university, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Not sure why anyone would have reason to disbelieve the information.Jake
