I have one and I think it's great! It's an airway clearance device- it sort of reminds me of a nebulizer on steroids! You put saline (or I use hypertonic saline sometimes) into the med cup, then turn it on and it shoots small blasts of air down into your lungs as you breath. I've tried EVERY kind of airway clearance that has come on the market (Flutter, PEP, CPT, the vest, etc...) and IPV is by far, the thing that has worked the best. I do 4 cycles of 3 minutes each, then a series of huff coughs in between each cycle. Until you get used to it, it hurts your cheeks, because you have to keep them tight. You can't just let the air go into your mouth and puff out your cheeks, otherwise it doesn't work right. Plus, the machine is pretty heavy to lug around (maybe 30 lbs.) and I have no idea how much it costs; probably pretty expense, but my insurance covered it. You can have your dr write you a perscription for it, then take the script to a durable medical equipment store to fill it. If you have any specific questions or anything, email me at AimeeSue82@yahoo.com.

I never heard of this piece of equipment. Sounds "painful" tho I am sure its not. Does it cause coughing or gagging fits just from the blast alone not counting loosening the secretions?

Most of the time, it doesn't cause coughing just from the air. It will if I'm already sick cuz then the mucus is so easy to get out, it doesn't take much to make me cough. It's not really "painful", it just takes some getting used to. I'm so glad I have it, because I'm sure my lungs wouldn't be as good as they are without it. Like I said, nothing else worked for me for airway clearance.
