IV side effects...

Hey everyone,

I woke up this morning with a blister on my lip. It dosent really hurt at all, just feels a little tight where the blister is. I have been in IVs for a week now so I am thinking maybe this could be another wonderful side effect just liike my pee smelling weird and my mouth tasting like pennies...(fun). I have gotten cold sores before while I was in the hospital because of the stress of being sick, but they were straight up cold sores outside my mouth, this is just a blister/bump thing on my lip... I just thought I would see if anyone has gotten something like this from the IVs or if it is just something completely unrelated.

Oh I've gotten lots of cold sores. ugg, they're terrible. This past winter I had a massive cold sore infection in my whole mouth-they spread to my tonsils, into my esophagus. Awful. They gave me Valtrex for them-it helped. But my doc says cold sores are a sign that your immune system is in distress. So if you are on antibiotics, they kill the bad bacteria and the good and mess up your "natural" immune system big time. I always get a few while on ivs. Just let them run their course-if they get out of control, show the doc b/c I had to be admitted when I had the big attack-if they get into your lungs it is serious. But you'll know it if they're getting that bad.

It might just be the antibiotics affect....I am on oral Zyvox right now and I can feel cold sores coming up on my lips. It could also be the cold weather, we are experiencing and all that jazz. Hope your feeling better soon!

you might have thrush, especially if your mouth tastes funny. id say its more likely a cold sore though. go see a doctor.

I have that bad taste in my mouth and i feel like im getting sores on my lips...and sometimes i get a dull pain in my throat...and my mouth is realllllyyyyy dry and im thirsty all the time...Im on Zyvox and i believe that is one of the side effects

no need to go off the meds. just see a doctor and if it is thrush they will give you some anti fungal lozenges. its more of a pain in the butt and uncomfortable than anything. remember to take probiotics.
