IV tobra

Anyone get like a numbness in their neck/throat from IV tobramycin.

I have had it for a couple days. I just emailed the doctor. The numbness is bothersome but I don't know if it is serious. It goes away when I touch the area (to the left of my adams apple). It is also numb above my ear. The numbness comes and goes.

Just basically wondering if this is a serious complication.

I have had numbness around my mouth before as well as my hands feeling tingly. I told the doctor and he checked my levels to find they were high. They lowered the dose and the numbness and tingles went away. Hope this helps.

No, I've never had that. I hope the dr. get's back to you soon, though, as it sounds scary. Maybe someone else on here has experienced it and will see your thread.

you should have gotten a sheet...well shoot i'll pull mine out cause i know i'm on iv tobra right now. ok on my sheet that i have the info that the home health care gave me for the tobra under warnings it says if you have numbness or skin tingling to call your doctor immediately. here's the other things is says to contact immediately about ringing in your ears, hearing loss, unusual change in amount of urine, dizziness, muscle twiching or seizures. have you had a nurse come to your house to draw peak and trough levels? i get mine drawn once a week. i would call you doctor too just to make sure. cause i know that the tobra can mess up your hearing or your kindeys if it's the wrong dosage amount. i'm actually on a lower dose than i would normally be but that's because i'm pregnant and they are hoping for no side affects with the baby. i would call though...no use in chances it. how long have you been experiencing the numbness?
