Hey guys,

I've been getting more sick this year...i seem to be going from one
antibiotic to another.

2 main things have changed in my life this year that i was thinking
could be contributing to this.
I finished school and i am now at varsity where there is
air-conditioning on most of the time. The other thing is that I
started a part-time job working where there are lot of young school
kids, and one of them always seem to be sick.

Anyone have any idea if this could be causing me to get more sick?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry one other thing...
What does it mean if you have blood (not old) in your
mucus?
I think the number one thing that gets people sick is stress. Then if you are stressed it is much easier for your body to pick up germs without being able to fight them off. I hope you figure what it is that is making you sick and avoiding it if possible.

Hi, thanks for your posts. I appreciate your thoughts. It's so nice to run things by others with CF!

I know I have a hard time and tend to get sick more often when I do not sleep well. When I was taking college courses a few years ago I did well at first. Then I decided I would take on a part time job on top of full time classes. Then to add to that I had to do volunteer work/internship type thing for one of my courses (so it was like another part time job). I was getting very little sleep and got sick within a few months. I was just running myself ragged.

Same thing this year also. I was in the hospital in Dec. got to feeling better then got a parttime job. Started working and had a hectic schedule was getting very little sleep couldn't eat right (because I wasn't sleeping well) and so on and got sick within a month.

Also like Amy said sometimes when we get busy we can neglect treatments.

I think being around little kids that are toting germs around can cause a problem, but try to stay clean - wash your hands, wash the kids hands and keep your things clean with lysol wipes or something like a disenfectant. Also you could try taking supplements and vitamins to maintain healthwise and that may help fight off some infection.

As for the blood. I get occasional streaks in my sputum but no pure blood. I say definitely call the doc if you are coughing pure blood. I sometimes get streaks of blood in my sputum if I am on my period (though it is hit or miss) or if I have been coughing a lot. Sometimes I will cough hard and find that I get blood streaks when I do strain to cough. I would keep an eye on it if it is streaking and if it doesn't go away in a day or two I would call the doc. I know when I have it, it normally doesn't last a whole day - normally only off and on for an hr or so. Sometimes coughing blood in your sputum can be a sign of infection and thus may be something you need to inform your doc about.

Hope you start feeling better and that you don't run yourself ragged with work and school .
