<img src="i/expressions/coughing.gif" border="0">I went to the dr. this last friday..She says that my lungs are closing up and I have bronchitis again for the 4th time this year! I am concerned...The other three times that I have had bronchitis, I ended up with bronchial pneumonia. Now I have it again! This time the advair and the prednisone isnt working. The zithromyacin made me feel worse, and I still am having problems breathing with no relief yet. I have been really sick for over 3 weeks now! My cf team doesnt know how to react to the way my cf is exacerbating in my system right now. They have mentioned another possible hospitalization. I am really scared.

I feel that something is being overlooked. But I have no idea of what it could be. But I know that I am not doing very well. I also went in to have some blood work done and they told me that my FASTING blood sugar level was 132!!! They were supposed to give me a 2 hour glucose tolerance test, but because my sugar level was already too high? they decided not to do the test. My cf dr. says that when a cfer has an exacerbation it can also cause the blood sugar to elevate a little bit. I honestly dont know what to do, but I know that I am tired of getting the same illness over and over again with no relief in sight. If anyone can give me any Ideas I would be so grateful...Thank you!

untreated diabetes can lead to increased CF exercerbations....

Get a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test.

If you have diabetes it needs to be treated...and it should help get your lung issues (somewhat) under control.

Is your CF team trying to treat your lung infection with azithromycin? Do you culture PA? If that's the case, azithromycin won't treat a PA exacerbation and you need a different antibiotic.

I have seen articles that indicate inflammation and diabetes are linked. Inflammation also promotes exacerbations. So I would wonder if inflammation is an issue and promoting both of these problems. I got inflammation under control by working on environmental exposures (allergens, chemicals) and working on my ph balance.

I was supposed to get a 2hr glucose tolerance test, but they said that my FASTING blood sugar level was too high. it was 132. They thought it was best to not let me take one on that day. I go back to the dr. on spet. 17th. and hopefully she will be able to do something then.
