IV's

Apart from my head feeling like mush and really sick on the IV's my sugar levels have gone really high. They are ok first thing in a morning but shoot up after breakfast and before bed. I'm upping my insulin but wondered if its a common thing, I've not noticed it before.

I also notice i'm feeling worse and more productive i suppose thats a sign they are working.

Hopefully my side affects will settle soon and i'll start to feel human again.

I cant say that iv's themselves have caused my sugars to go nuts. The infection will & steroids. Any chance there is dextrose in the mix instead of saline?

It might just be your body reacting in general to the whole infection thing. Stress & many other things can cause elevated sugars!

Hope you feel better soon!

Think you could be right about the stress. Hubbys just been made redundant which i think was a trigger for needing the IV's in the first place.

I;ll have to try and chill out a bit more.

Thanks

Just a though while this is going on....

To minimize how much insulin you need....and to help destress, maybe you could do some exercise. I am not talking a full fledged get down & do 50 pushups type thing. I mean just more physically active then usual (this is presuming you arent alrady). I found in the hospital that when I exercised more (since I wasnt as active as at home) that I didnt needed the same amount of insulin at meals.
