In the last three days, Mother Nature has been bashing Japan!!!
Osaka got hit by a Typhoon Saturday Night (spoiled my plans for a Rice Curry meal!), rain practically all weekend, and to finish it off, had another good size earthquake, big enough to cause mudslides (what happens when mixed with a lot of rainfall), and a nuclear reactor to dump a little radioactive water into the sea (They say it was only One-Billionth the legal limit for radioactive material to be expelled into the sea)!!
The earthquake was in Niigata Prefecture, which is along the Japan Sea side of Japan, just north of Gunma Prefecture where I was a few weeks ago. The nuclear reactor feeds a good portion of electricity to Japan, mostly to Tokyo I'm sure.
Needless to say, the wife and I are ok, and even the MIL is oblivious to what goes on outside her "den".
Since the wife is still boycotting NHK, I didn't even know about the earthquake until I turned on my computer when doing my nebs....I did feel a good "thump" of a shock around 5pm, but in Japan, that kind of seizmic activity is common!
The nuclear thing, I didn't hear about it til after I got to work, and they mentioned it at "morning assembly".
Perhaps I should mention I work in a company that deals with nondestructive testing (NDT), so things like nuclear powerplants and axles to rollercoaster rides would be significant news here!
Anyway, last Thursday, my shoulder was hurting and even though it had been raining, I thought something else might be the case...sure enough, when I heard a Typhoon was coming this way, it explained why my shoulder was hurting.
Other than disasters hitting here-and-there in Japan, I have been fortunate to be clear of them! (P.S. The sun decided to peek out for a few moments!!)
