Jobs in Medical field

I plan on taking the certification course to be a pharmacy technician and it got me to thinkin about how the interview would go...

And sometimes they ask you things like tell me about yourself or why is this your passion?

And it got me to thinking...how can I say that pills are my passion when they have been my life and I know alot about the field already without mentionin CF?

Also do you think that if you are on an interview for a job in the medical field, that if you mention that you have been a patient and live with something that can help you relate to your patients, that that may help your chances of getting the job or do you feel maybe you shouldnt say anything at all about it?

Just wondering what others might think <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I think you should answer honestly but you do not necessarily need to bring in the CF part. For instance, when I interviewed for my job I say I enjoy taking care of people(I am a nurse). I love learning about new treatments and make a difference in someone's life. But I did not say my daughter has CF, so I know alot of breathing treatments and CF care. I kept it more vague, and really did not bring up CF to my manager at all; it's not a secret in the least; now that I have been there for 2 years and proved my ability to them.

When I interviewed for my position as a Medical tech. student they asked me if I had any medical experience. I couldn't help but smile!! I started with the fact that my Dad was a diabetic, then proceeded to my grandfather had pulmonary fibrosis... when neither of those really impressed them, I mentioned the fact that I have CF. I know many choose not to do this, but with how my state was progressing, I didn't think it would be fair for me to not let them know.

Anyway, I know that they hesitated with accepting me because they didn't want to contribute to unnecessary exposure, but it also helped me. They knew out of most, I understood what it was like on the patient side of things. I knew that every blood vial was special because of how many times I had been poked. I dunno, I think personal experience is the best teacher.

Now, if I were to interview again for the same type of thing, would I disclose so early? Probably, but my cf isn't easy to hide... they're going to figure I have something going on...
