as some know i had a picc placed on saturday. i had my dressing changed on monday and starting yesterday it's been really itchy and kinda sore. it may be sore cause i'm a big baby and baby my arm (i only move it when i have too). it's still bruised and i just want to hold it in one position all the time so that nothing happens to it so that i don't have to go back for another picc. i just want to itch it, but i can't stand looking at it (it gives me the eeeebbbb jeeebbbeeezzz)!!! i'm thinking i might be allergic to the stupid bandage thing, which sucks cause i'm scheduled for another two weeks of iv's. when it really itches i turn and i bite at it (in the air of course) my husband looks at me like i'm nuts. i do peek in at the picc to make sure it's not doing something awful. it does have a little bit of blood coming out of the insertation site, but that always happens with me when i have a picc. it's not even been a week with the stupid thing and i want it out!! anyways i just wanted to complain somewhere. thanks for listening guys!!

i always scratched mine on the outside of my bandage. i could never see the insertion site because i always had a peice of gauze covering it.

you can do, two weeks isn't that long <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Its important that you move your arm a certain amount to keep the blood flow & muscles moving. You have a foreign object in your body & your body doesnt like it.

If the site itself was infected....you would know. Its not a muscle sore or a trauma sore, its an infection/swollen sore.

As to the itching around the dresssing....omg I always had a red line around it. I had to apply 1% hydrocortizone to relieve it because I would dig it up. Before I got the cream I used alcohol wipes because I would rather have the burn then the itch.

i definetly know it's not infected...my last picc that was placed two years ago got infected and it oozed this yellow puss. it was really gross. the doctor pulled it a few days early because she didn't like that it was oozing. it's not as sore right now as it was earlier. i think i may have jerked it around last night and just kinda laying low today has helped. it itches all around underneath the tergderm. i think i might be allergic to the stupid adhesive. right now it's just a little sore underneath like at my arm pit, which i know that's from the way i hold it. i guess i also feel like it's so far under my arm that if i place my arm flat against my body it rubs it and just thinking about that grosses me out. but thanks guys!
