Hi everyone...Well last night we just found out that my fiancee is pregnant. We have been together almost 5 years now! But here is our situation...Have any of you been through this or know anyone that has?

Last march...3-10-05 when i went for my 3 month checkup i also took a semen annaylosis test to see if i was stearale. The test came back and showed that there was no sperm in my semen. So after that she finished what was left of her birth control (the patch) then she got off it.

Now here we are almost a year to the day and she is prego. Have any others guys here had this happen? or heard of any case? I know that anything can happen and i have heard of other mes that were "so called stearale" this can happen? What do you guys think? thanks.

I hate to tell you this, but if there are no sperm in your semen then you can't be the daddy. Unless the test was wrong....

Well, if there was really not one sperm at all and if this still is like this, you can´t be the daddy. But as far as I know, one can also be called sterile, if there are only some sperms, and if there are some sperms, one of it could have done its job...

The thing is that Labs Do make mastakes.

If I were in Your place I would go back to the Doc and have a new Sperm count done and request the samples be sent to 2 different Labs for testing.

I have a Friend who is a Cancer doctor, She always has Samples of
What ever tests She is having done to THREE different Labs.
She says with the amount of tests they do, they make mastakes
all the time.

Good Luck

Just as the others have said, if there was no sperm in your ejaculation for the test.... there is no humanly possible way you could be the father. With medical intervention, YES, but on your own-NO

It seems that you have the right idea to go back and get tested. A word of advice, as I am sure your doctor will tell you. Refrain from sexual activity, including masterbation for 3 days BEFORE the test, but DO NOT go more than 4 days without some sort of ejaculation (self induced or otherwise) as either will skew the test.

As others have said, labs have screwed up before, it woudn't be a first. But you definately have the right idea about going and getting retested.

Best of luck to you!

Well, for me the only way to be shure is a paternity test!
If you do a sperm test again, what for?
If it says, there are no sperms at all, ok, but what, if some have been there one or two months ago?
If it says, there are some sperms, the doctors will still say, the possibility to get someone pregnant is very low, but your fiancee is pregnant...
The possibility of a absolute positive test with a lot of sperms like every absolute healthy man seems to be quite unlikely...
So you pay money for nothing, because you will still be thinking<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">id it really happen? And you will pay money again for the paternity test later...

Paternity testing can be done in utero but it is generally not done because it can pose risks to the fetus. It is done via amnio, the same way one would test for the CF gene.

Uli, I don't quite understand why you would think that another sperm analysis would be pointless?? I'm not sure about the insurance in germany, but in the US, it is a generally covered test so the cost usually isn't a factor... especially if you are already at the doctor. Paternity testing is generally not covered unless court ordered, and then it is sometimes covered by insurance but thats an entirely different ball game because then there are lawyer, court costs... and so on.

Getting another semen analysis will tell you 1 of 2 very difinitive things.
1. You have sperm (either normal, high, or low quantities of sperm)
2. You do NOT have sperm (you can still ejaculate and have fructose in your ejaculation, but no sperm, and therefore no motility, no protein, and a few other characteristics of sperm would obviously not be there).
Sperm are ever reproducing parts of your body so unless there was some damage or trauma to your testicles around the time of your last test, it is VERY unlikely that your body would show NO sperm (not even a small amount, or some sperm characteristics) and then a few months later be producing sperm.

Best of luck, and just because I am a curious person, I am really interested in the outcome of the test if you are so inclined to share... I'm very interested in the CF/male infertility/fertility aspect of things....
