Hi,

I finished an IV a bit over a week ago for PA, but my phlegm colour is not good plus I'm quite productive. Could it be just old stuff coming up?
I don't usually get this after an IV, but I can't imagine still being sick after a 2wk IV!

How soon can u test a sputum after antibiotics?

You're advice will be appreciated.

I always get this after IVs. I usually have about a week maybe 2 that is really good then I start to cough up the nastiness again. Your docs could probably do a culture at any time. It would depend a little on your insurance more than the culture I think though.

Take Care,

Hey, Lauren...

I'm just finishing up my 2 weeks of IVs and feel the same as you. I usually feel great when on the meds, but within a week or so I start coughing up the nasty stuff again. I usually don't feel as rundown for awhile, but the cough is deffinitely back much earlier than I would like. I have been on IVs for up to 3 weeks, and it just doesn't matter... my cough always comes back with a vengence within a week or two. So, not sure how normal it is. I know we're still "knocking" the germs and pseudo. in our lungs back when we do IVs, so I just keep that in mind. Yes, the cough does come back (sooner for some than others), but at least we were able to knock it back a bit instead of just letting it get worse and worse.

Anyway, I'd also like to hear more responses regarding this as I often wonder why some of us get the gunk back more quickly than others.

Take care,

Seems to come back less severly when I followed with TOBI, but I get the same thing. Also, I was still coughing up junk while towards the end of my last IV about a month ago and my nurse said it is probably just old stuff.
