Just thought of this, made me curious.

OK, I have been out of school for 5 years. When I was in school, I was friends with a girl who had CF but was very healthy. She was so healthy in fact, I didn't know she had CF. I'll explain because I know people are thinking how did I not know.

People at school knew I had CF and everyone was cool about it. Everyone knew they could ask anything, but nobody usually mentioned it. She knew I had CF and she never told anyone about hers except her best friend. Well her best friend came and told me that she had it. I was shocked, but after I really took notice, it was clear. I asked her friend why she never took her pills and she told me she didn't take them because she didn't want to get fat. Wow, I had never even thought of that being a problem.

Anyway fast forward to now. I hear that she is very sick but she is totally in denial whenever anyone asks her about CF. I know the trials and problems that come with having this disease, but come on. Why would someone just totally block out why they are sick?

I was totally in denial in my high school & college years. I guess because I didn't want to be different or to be treated differently because of my CF. I went to a small town school & news like that would have spread quickly, so I didn't tell anyone. I am so much more open about it now, but at the time, I was in denial & the only reason I can think of why is because I didn't want to be treated differently or be treated with sympathy, if this makes sense.
Possibly your friend has the same reason? Or maybe she just is in denial that she even has CF?
