Kidney competition

I think its wrong for a few reasons. One is those who need the organs, but cant/wont become contestants dont have a chance. Two even tho the talk of organ donations gets out there, I almost feel that this makes a mockery of the need & seriousness and thirdly.....just simply what has happened to people in general!

The concept of the show is dubious, but we should wait and see how they approach the subject in the show before we pass judgement, after all they are wanting to raise awareness of the organ donation shortfall they have in the Netherlands, and also elsewhere. I cant help but think that it is a crass idea though.
My father, who does dyalisis three times a week, told me some figures about transplants of kidneys ( he is not on the list for transplant, nor wants to be ), of the 900 or so on the list in the UK last year only just over 100 recieved a kidney.
So if this raises awareness and ultimately more donor registration, which in turn leads to more lung donations, ( and any other organ donation ) can we honestly say that it is a bad idea, maybe not an idea that we like but...!

This show will be aired with us this coming friday.. And i am so happy i won't be home, i'm going to Tarzan the musical. I really don't need to see it.

The show is not a pitch but a one time thing. The founder of the network that will broadcast it died of a kidneydesease he got when he was a child after he had had 2 transplants and lots of other problems. He was 35 i think at that time.

It is a show to get more people to donate their organs and i don't think that this will be the only thing of the evening. The time for people to wait for a kidney now is about 4 years. Donation is getting more and more of a problem overhere, more and more people are not willing to donate their organs.

The network that does this doesn't like this idea either but they think this is the best way to get more people to be a donor. I don't think it is. I think it will scare people off... There is still talk about if this show is real, if that woman really exists.. And still they can still not go ahead with it, they have had lots and lots of publicity now. Really people know they should be a donor, even without doing this show.

And then i think that in the end it really isn't possible. As she (or i think people can vote by sms) will pick the person she wants to donate to. And that person will get the kidney after the woman has died of cancer. But the problem is that you can choose who you want to donate to if you are a living donor (for instance the case with family) but you can't choose when you have died. The 'rule' is that organs will go to the person highest on the list.

So i don't know how this will end, even after this has aired..

To Jfarel: you can be a donor with CF. They look at what organs they can take. Just see the story where they transplanted the heart of a woman with CF into someone with a heartdisease. She got another heart with her lungtransplant cause the procedure is simpler that way. But her heart was still good, so not waisted.
