Skye, thanks for checking out my blog! Yes, I am appealing my insurance company's decision denying me coverage for an insulin pump. I am hoping to hear back from them this week. My doc should have already sent in another letter to them. I have no idea how to appeal their decision against the continuous glucose monitor though.
I am wondering if my insurance company denies EVERYthing on the first submission. I opened some mail last night that had been stacking up and found they also denied my IV antibiotics and my home nursing visits that I received last month. (shaking head in sadness). What jerks. First they tell me they won't cover a hospitalization and I should do home IVs instead, now they tell me not to do home IVs. Who really dictates my health care? Sure isn't my doctor! (sorry for the rant, I'm a little overwhelmed today)

Just a thought when dealing with consistant denial of meds and pump. I have had to deal with this so much. I finally decided I need to call someone from the greivance department at the Insurance company and deal stricly with one person if you possibly can. Everytime you speak to soeone ask for a name and try to continually ask for that same person. Write your letters to that person ie. Attention so and so. Humanize the situation. They need to know there is a sick human being behind the denials. It took a while.but we finally have created a repoire with that one person . It helps . It certainly doesn't hurt to try.

Try not to ge overwhelmed. One day at a time. That's all we can do.
Feeling for you,

Skye,
I also take the BP med for my kidneys. I was wondering, (maybe you know), since you say you are watching your BS numbers....why do you continue to take the med ?
This is something I was wondering for myself. Although, I'm not A+ on my numbers, (and dehydrated most of the time, I'm sure) so I guess it's common sense to continue it.
Did your dr's tell you why you are still on it?

Thanks,

Thanks for the advice JenWren. I'll see what I can do. Right now all the paperwork is going through the medical supply company before it gets to the insurance. The first appeal letter is going to be sent to them today.

CaliSally, my doc has also said I should stay on the blood pressure medicine. Just as a precaution. If the blood pressure is lower there is less chance of damaging the kidneys.
