Well Jazmine has started with her belly aches. Last year we had a rough time with them. Pain, nauciousness, gas, no sleep. I use to think it was allergies then anxiety.
So last night it started. NOW I know its NOT allergies (environemental that she has been treated for I mean) or anxiety, BUT I have narrowed down the possibilities.
She bought school lunch yesterday & the only thing different from her home diet was the milk she drinks which she drinks whenever she buys lunch. She also drank florinated, bottled water that I sent with her. She drinks neither of these at home. She doesnt eat cheese except melted mozzarella at home. She does eat ice cream, but its not the "quality" stuff made from thru cream etc. I buy the cheap stuff for her since she doesnt care & goes thru a lot of it.
I looked info up on the internet & it could be Milk Allergy OR Lactose Intolerance. Given the fact that it seems to happen mainly when she drinks milk & no problems with cheese & that 90-95% of African Americans encounter this problems I am leaning toward that.
I am waiting for her doctors office to open so I can get her in. In the meantime I shipped her to school. Tired, but better! Its only the 2nd day & I just cant have her out already.
Its easy enough to fix if it is this, but I am looking for feedback from anyone that has been officially diagnosed with milk allergies OR lactose intolerance. The internet also said with the intolerance that the severity varies from person to person. Which would explain why Jazz can handle mozzorella cheese etc, but not the actual milk.
Thanks Guys!
UPDATE:
We went to the doctor. We discussed the different theories & options. He believes its lactose intolerance. It would have been 1 year on September 9 that we went to him for her last belly ache issue during school time.
He wrote a note for her to have the option of drinking juice when she buys lunch. I didnt want her to worry about taking the pills there. I told him as of right now cheese, yogurt, ice cream etc isnt a problem. He didnt seem surprised. He did say to pick up the Lactate tablets to have for the times she will drink milk like with cereal or if for some reasons her intolerance worsens. And of course to call with any problems, but he was sure this was the answer.
All of last year & possibly before this could have been her problem, but I didnt connect the dots. I will keep logging things etc to make sure, but I have confidence in her doctor.
He also has intolerance so was very understanding of her discomfort. She now weighs 75 pounds & is 4 10 1/2".
Thanks for all your input. Jenn....no real change in diet except no regular cows milk. I dont know if we will try soy or just try the tablets with any regular milk she uses. I dont see soy being a hit in our house, but you never know!
