Laid off

If he was "laid off" and not terminated - he will get unemploment right? and is there any chance of being called back? Usually you get unemployment (a percentage of your pay) and just have to send out applications for employment to show that you are looking for a job. I could be wrong but that is what happened to me before.

You can collect unemployment if terminated. Its when you voluntary quit that a problem arises. As to the COBRA ??.....no question that it will be pricey, but since you dont know what the future brings (disability or another job with benefits) then its in his best interest to keep coverage.

Having a drastic or lengthy cut in income is always devistating. Prepare NOW by figuring out who/what would need to be changed regarding the amount of payments, time of payments or negotiated or deferred payments. Please dont wait until things get bad to handle it all.

Good LUck!

So sorry to hear about this Katie! Is there any reason to suspect that he was laid off because his medical condition (or because he took all of that FMLA leave, etc.) or was it just a downsizing issue? If he was chosen (instead of someone else) to be laid off because of the CF then there may be a legal issue, but if it was just downsizing, there isn't. With laying so many people off I think that it could be difficult to prove that CF was the motivation even if it was--but I don't know the specifics of what happened, etc. If you do think that it was CF related, talk to any attorney in your state.

Sorry to hear about this--hang in there and PM me if you need to chat!
