Letter to Donor's Family

I wrote my donor's family about a year after my transplant. I got my tx in March and I wrote it around the first of this year. I just felt so grateful that I had gotten a transplant. I started off with what my life was like before my transplant, what the day was like when I got it and how grateful I was that I'd gotten it. I got my lungs from a 16 year old boy, and his mom called my mom after we were able to exchange addresses and phone numbers. Of course I was at work but my mom talked to his mom. Then she called me on my birthday <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> She said that I was the only one that has contacted her out of all the people that recieved his organs. It creates a speical bond between you, your family and their family. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My hospital said i had to wait a year to write to my donor family..... talked to the dept that has the information after a year and they said oh that is not true so. Im going to write to them next week when i have some time over the holidays.

I didnt know what to write either so a lady sent me a brochure in the mail that actually gives you ideas about what to write. if you would like some suggestions jsut let me know and i write it up for anyone

You don't need to wait a year to reply. I replyed right when I got out of the hospital.
It was so important to me, to say, thank you for the wonderful gitft. And that I think about their family everyday.
