Leah, do you have a rep that you used at colonial life? Or did you just call their customer service number?

Joe, have you looked into getting disability protection on your mortgage? It's usually a few cents on the dollar for the principal. Ordinairly I'd say it's NOT worth it, but for a CFer, id' say if your mortgage company offers it, it might be worth it depending on price and how much of the principal balance it cancels.

I had to get life insurance through an employer. I'm no longer with them, but I've made sure to keep it because I'm 31 and don't figure anyone else will take me! But I plan to look around some, though.

Julie,

We had a rep come to our work who I worked with, so I was able to ask him specific questions and get the no-questions-asked plan. Someone else on this forum called up Colonial Life after I spoke with her and I believe she got the same plan by just calling the number on the web site.

i believe colonial life only offers insurance through an employer...i dont think you can go onto their web site and request information as an individual looking for an insurance policy.

Julie, I have not yet looked into it, but it has crossed my mind if I ever went into the hospital and I exhaust all my sick, sick bank, personal and vacation time. Going to have to check with the bank, or another insurance company for that type of insurance. Any suggestions other than going through the bank who holds the mortgage for more than one option?

I don't know of anything other than the bank that holds the mortgage, and even at that some don't even offer it. It's one of those things you need to get BEFORE you are out of work long term though. Otherwise you are already "disabled" by their standards and you won't qualify.
