Last night I went to my dancing/drama/ singing lessons which I do
for three hours every week. Towards the end, with about half an
hour to go I started feeling quite sick. I was having pains in my
stomach (not the usual not enough enzymes sort of pain if you get
my drift) but more like cramps - but worse. It wasn't just in my
lower stomach but also sort of in my lower ribs and it kind
of felt like I had a tight band around my abs, restricting my
breathing. I felt shaky and my legs especially were shaking a lot.
I couldn't walk properly they were shaking uncontrollably. I was
very hot and flushed, yet my hands were cold and clammy, and I was
feeling a bit lightheaded.<br>
<br>
Does anyone know what this could be?? This morning I woke up still
feeling shaky and I had a headache and felt dizzy whenever I stood
up but nothing as bad as last night.<br>
<br>
I had an OGTT test done last month, and was told that whilst I do
not have CFRD yet, my sugars are too high and out of the normal
range, but not yet diabetes so my doc said to just 'keep an eye on
it'.<br>
<br>
Could last night be something to do with this? Or dehydration
perhaps?<br>
<br>
Thanks

I would say low blood sugar from activity? Happened to Ry when he danced for awhile. *shrug*

I get that way sometimes, and I think its a combo of cepacia flaring up, not enough hydration and fatigue. Also and I know you're young hon and I don't mean to scare you-but you're sure you're not pregnant? I mean, the symptoms you describe could be a thousand different things. Not neccesarily that! Just thought I'd mention it.
I hope you find out what it is! Maybe try drinking extra water the next week and see if you feel better? Get an extra hour of sleep?

Just by reading the title of your post I thought low blood sugar.

When I have low blood sugar I get a variety of symptoms.

They include:

Feeling flushed and sweating though my body is cold.
Hands/Arms/Legs shaking
Arms/Legs feeling "rubbery" and weak like I am unable to support myself
I get hungry - like the pit of my stomach growling hungry
I get disoriented
I can feel dizzy
I get headaches - the kind that make you feel your eyes are going to explode or you head will combust at any moment

If my blood sugar is really low:
I start to slur my speech
I can have a hard time with vision
I have actually lost my hearing - temporarily

I have also gotten some of these symptoms with high blood sugar - mainly the headaches and the sweating when I am cold. I usually only get the shaking hands and legs and such when my blood sugar is low. If you have a glucose monitor then I say try checking your blood sugar when you feel this way the next time and see what it is. If you do not have a monitor - I would call your doc and see if they can prescribe you one or something. If they said your sugars were slightly high anyway - it would not hurt to have one.

I will add this:
When your blood sugar starts to drop low you will experience a variety of symptoms. This is because your body needs sugar to convert to energy to help your body function properly. If there is not enough sugar in your blood for your body to function at 100% certain functions start to shut down. It is your bodies way of conserving energy for the processes that are the most necessary - i.e. when I lost my hearing it was because it was not necessary and my body needed that energy to keep my other organs going at the time. The more minor and less important things in our body begin to suffer - feeling in extremities and so on - our bodies are trying to conserve energy for our core (our organs and body parts we need to survive).
It is scary, and it is a problem if your blood sugar drops to low. I would suggest carrying a snack with you in case you feel that way again. That way you can eat something and if it helps great - if not then there may be another problem which is always possible.

I know that paragraph above may have been a little much, but I wanted to try and explain why thsoe symptoms can occur when your blood sugar goes low. I was very worried when I had experienced hearing loss and asked my doc why and that is what she told me.

Hope you don't have any more problems with it, but I would definitely try getting a monitor just for peace of mind.

my first thought was low blood sugar too.  when my sugars are
low-i feel weak, shaking, hungry, and if I let it go, I become
disoriented and have a hard time putting together a coherent
sentence.  i especially have problems if I don't have enough
to eat before I excercise-so, I try to have some type of energy bar
30 minutes before I exercise and then I carry one in my bag or
purse for the "emergencies".

Thankyou all for replying. First off, Christian  - thanks for
the suggestion but I'm definitely not pregnant lol. But thanks
anyway, and I will try drinking some more water and maybe a
Powerade or something next week. To tleigh, Lindsey and Allie,
thanks too for your suggestions. What I felt sounded exactly like
how you said you feel with low blood sugar Lindsey. Are the
monitors the little things that you prick you finger with and get
the reading on the digital...thingy? lol. I'm probably seeing my
doc soon as I've been having a lot of stomach issues so I might ask
then. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> And I will also keep some sort of energy bar on me in
future just in case it happens again. And to anony - Thankyou!!! I
do feel much better since that 'episode'. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">  Bye

Yes that is what I am talking about. Just to mention, if you do get a monitor you will also need a prescription for lancets and test strips so that you can use it. I am sure your doc will remember to give you that, but just wanted to make sure you knew.

Also you need to either wash your hands well before pricking your finger or use an alcohol pad to wipe the finger/area you are going to stick to get blood. If you don't clean the area you can get a false reading because anything that was on your finger (or arm or whatever area you test) will be transferred from your skin, to your blood to the machine.
