Liver issue

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that your daughter may have liver problems as I had them too. The doctors noticed something not quite right when I was about 14 and the first thing they tested me for was Cancer. Thank God it wasn't that! But what we did find after a liver biopsy is that I had Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension (high blood pressure in the liver) which was causing my spleen to be enlarged. After this diagnosis, I was put on Actigall and it helped for a little while. As my lungs started to decline, my liver did too. I had mucus, scarring, and the blood pressure got worse. I was told in November 2004 (when I was 23) that I needed lung transplant and I might as well look into getting the liver too because with how bad it was getting, it would not handle the new meds from the lung transplant. So, I was placed on the liver waiting list as well as the lung waiting list, and all three were transplanted at the same time. Both my donor lungs and liver are in excellent condition.

Anyway, if she is having problems with her liver there are probably a few things that they can do to help prevent the damage from coming on too fast. It took 9 years for mine to go down hill and the liver transplant would not have happened if I did not need the lungs. They would have let my liver get worse before they transplanted it. As someone else also said, try not to be too upset. The doctors are noticing more these days that CF patients need liver transplants too. I wish you and your daughter all the best.

I am so sorry to hear this news! My son Brady, who is now 4, had liver problems at about 6 months of age. He was actually on the liver transplant list for about 6 months, but with the help of his doctor, Actigall, and alot of prayer, his liver is now fine, and he was able to come off the list after about 6 months. After that initial time, his blood work has come back fine every time. Just wanted you to know that things can change. Keep your head up and I will keep you in my prayers!!!

I am so sorry that you are having this problem. I want you to know that my son Brady had this problem when he was about 6 months old. He actually spent 6 months on the liver transplant list. However, after 6 months we were able to take him off the transplant list, and his liver has been fine ever since. He was on Actigall for about 18 months, but has not needed it since. I don't know what to tell you helped his liver, other than we did alot of praying for a miracle. I wish you the best of luck, and I will definitely be adding you to my prayer list. We will pray that your precious one will get the same miracle that our sweet boy received.
