Hi Nicki,
My brother was transplanted in 3/05 at Loyola. He was a pt of Dr. Stone's but saw Dr. Garrity's team at Loyola. My brother, unfortunately, did not have a chance to enjoy his new lungs as he passed away in 4/05. Sorry I can't be of help in that regard.
However, I live in Milwaukee with my family in Chicagoland area. So I travel a few times a month to visit them.
Did you live in IL when you received your transplant? Is there a team near you that can manage your transplant? We manage lung transplants from other hospitals at my Children's hospital in Wisconsin.
I recommend the earliest appointment so you can leave very early to avoid morning traffic or take a noon appointment so you are traveling after the morning rush. WI/IL interstate is continually undergoing construction so it is not always easy to know exactly when to leave. Usually 10-2 pm is a safe time.
Feel free to write me if you have any specific questions!
Good luck! Jenn
