I grew up in phila. I lived in upstate new york for 15 years. I've lived in phoenix for over 10 years. I also lived in florida for 3 months. By far, I have felt the best and stayed the healthiest here in mesa AZ. That doesn't mean you don't get sick. The winter snow birds bring their nasty germs with them. So many snow birds, so little freezer space!

I live in So Cal. We have the worst air in the country and your taxes go to fund healthcare for illegal immigrants. I would highly recommend not moving here.....

I say live at Sea... or as close to it as possible.... I just got back from a cruise.. and my lungs felt great in all tha salt air.... It was amazing.... I can't even explain the difference but it was like someone lifting a vice from my chest... unfortunatly, now that I am back in NJ...the tightness is coming back...

I am planning a move to SC though within the year....not exactly on the Ocean or really near it.. but honestly, it was so refreshing to not have that tight feeling

I'm the odd one out, I never really feel great benefits of the beach. I moved from somewhere that was on the coast (granted not near an actual swimming beach), hot and humid, with no real seasons.... to somewhere that's inland at a higher altitude, extremely dry, with very distinct seasons... and I don't notice much of a difference.

My advice is live where you are happiest -- if your environment is making you sick, you won't be happy. If you're feeling isolated, you might not be happy. So it's just a matter of balance because nowhere is perfect! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We actually made a huge move just 2 months ago - for the reason of better health for my husband's CF. We moved from coastland - Houston, Texas (land o' hurricanes) to Tucson, Arizona. WE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband lived his entire life in the humidity of TX and is doing significantly better in the AZ dry heat. I know a lot of CFs really dislike the dry, arid climate, but Chris thrives in it. His PFTs have stabilized, his hemoptysis is under control, his energy level has increased, and he takes FAR LESS pain meds daily. He actually lived in Tucson on a 'trial run' for 6 weeks back in Nov. 2006 while I stayed behind to work in Houstonl. Based on his success in the trial run period, we sold our home in TX and left all our friends & family behind. It's been worth it though.

Best of luck in your decision making - I know it's so variable based on each CF's reaction to climate.

We live in NJ, about 3 minutes from the ocean and love it! Aidan spends all summer on the beach and stays very healthy. I haven't really noticed it making much of a difference with a cough but he doesn't really have a cough yet at age 2.

We lived in Minnesota for 4 years, and although the girls were never really sick, it's just a hard place to live where weather was concerned. When it's 30 below 0, it is hard for anyone to breathe, let alone someone with CF. So we made the decision to move to south Texas (not solely because of the girls, but that is one reason). We moved to the McAllen area where it's summer pretty much all year round. We loved the weather, but in the first year my daughter had 5 sinus surgeries (not a single sinus problem before moving). So, we got the heck out of there. We are now in west Texas (desert area, very dry, much like AZ) and haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood.. we've only been here for 3 months). It's still mild temperatures, just without the humidity.
