looking for financial assistance for O2

Hi everyone,

My husband recently did an overnight pulse ox test and really needs some oxygen. I'm not sure what the effects of prolonged hypoxia are... but I'm trying to convince him we need to get him some O2 even though it's so expensive.

Today I'll be calling around to our CF center, home health places, etc. to try to find if anyone has a program to help low income people. We're currently appealing a Medicaid denial but he can't wait that long.

Have you ever heard of financial assistance for home O2? What is a basic price range? We're in Utah by the way.

TIA,
Shauna

You could look to buy an oxygen concentrator, you can get one for under $1000, this would at least help out during the night and around the house when needed. I think most places may let you make payments if you can't afford the total up front. You could then fight to have medicaid pay for it. Otherwise you can lease them, but it ends up being more expensive that way over time; however, they do check them out periodically to make sure they are still functioning properly and would replace it if something is wrong. Anyway, check out this site, which has a concetrator for $720. Also, call your local oxygen supplier they may be able to help you out somehow.

If you are thinking about buying, then I know some who have bought the Chad Total 02 system which also will fill portables for you. It even shows up on ebay sometimes, like here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...ewItem&item=7613908682 .

Thanks for the responses.
We found a place that will reimburse us once he gets approved for Medicaid, so we're having his prescription sent to them. Our case worker really thinks he'll get approved this appeal or the next, so I think this is the best option.
We're hoping the oxygen is temporary for now. But when it comes time to buy, I know where to ask for recommendations!!!
Thanks again,
