Kylie - I drink a glass a night (and you know - you get used to the taste, and prune juice is actually refreshing because it holds coldness very well, if that makes any sense at all). Sometimes, if I get backed up anyway, I'll drink about 3 glasses, spread throughout the day. I'll also eat maybe 5 prunes (in place of the juice) once in awhile just for some exciting variety. I used to get TERRIBLE constipation to the point I had to go to the hospital a few times for pain shots and some special enema (boy was that fun). I also had what the docs thought was appendicitis when I was younger, and when they went in to take it out (I had all the symptoms) they discovered my appendix was fine - I had bricks inside my intestine, so they fixed that by manual stimulation. I realize you all now know far more about my intestines than you wanted to.Anyway - since I started the prune juice a day thing - it's kept the constipation away (I seriously need to refrain from writing posts after midnight).Piper

lol piper its ok. everyone seems to hear about the gross things to do with cf sooner or later. im probably the grossest person my partner and family know. im going to go get some prune juice on shopping day. if the taste isnt too bad it doesnt bother me. metamucil is just as gross. i actually stopped the metamucil after reading your post and i started back on normacol. its like metamucil the but granules are bigger, you dont need to put it in water and it has stericula [bowel stimulant] in it. i take all this along with lactulose and sometimes agarol. it worked thank god. id had pains all week from taking colonlitely that didnt work.i too apologise for the grossness of this post!

My husband knows everything there is to know about my bowels They can be quite exciting.Anyway - I've used Golitely at times. I get worried about using stimulants and too many things for your bowels because your bowels stop working right. It's like using Affrin - works for a few days, but ou can't use it long because your sinuses actually get worse. So, make sure your doc knows everything you're on (I'm sure he/she does) and if you have a concern about using TOO much of a good thing, which causes backfiring (or lack there of!).Piper
