lung function after tx

how long did it take for the lungs to fully recover and blow a good PFT. are we talking days.....weeks.......months ???? any info will help

It takes a couple of months I would say. Probably like 3 to 4. But with that being said, right out of the gate my PFTs were up to around 70% of predicted on the FEV1. When that didn't increase as much as the doctor would have liked he did a bronchoscopy and found some slight acute rejection. After treating that, my PFTs soared!

Hey,
Mine were up in the 60-70s almost immediately after surgery. It took a few months until they were really good and now I consistently blow in the 90s.
My transplant center makes us test our PFTs twice a day with a portable PFT machine and when I look back, it is amazing at how steadily they improved after surgery.  In fact, it has been 18 months and my PFTs are still climbing!

My PFTs were double what they were when I went into my transplant within 2 weeks. By 6 months post transplant my PFTs were at 90%, and have stayed there since that time. I am 4 years post transplant now and my last PFTs were 91% FEV1 and 85% FVC.
