Lung transplant with 2 living donors

Hopefully I won't have to have a transplant for a long, long time (or ever) but i was surfin' the net for kicks and i stumbled upon a website of a girl who had a double lung transplant by two donor lungs of PEOPLE SHE KNEW!

</a>
She basically had her uncle and a guy named Jerry both donate a lung.

This concept completely blow my mind--first of all, not having to wait for someone to die to get lungs, and second, having the donors not only survive the lung-removal surgery but be around to hang out afterwards!

Is this a new thing? The website is dated from 2000. I wonder where this lady is now.

IT is not a new thing, but it is less common. My sister had a Supervisor whose son received both full lungs from someone who died & when he went into complete rejection, he received lobes from living donors.

Sadly by this point his body just couldnt bounce back. It is amazing what they do tho.

hm...so then, (forgive me if this is a really dumb question) why aren't we all scouting for potential donors, like, NOW to be on standby if things start to go downhill and we need new lungs?
