Lung troubles around the time of your period and birth control questions!

Since having my second daughter and a return of regular periods I have been having a lot of lung troubles about a week before my period is to start. The lung troubles have been enough that I need at least oral abx. Twice I decided to bite the bullet and get a PICC. With two small children I feel it is my job to be super aggressive in treating these things. Anyway. Next month I am having a Mirena IUD placed. I really hope I get the side effect of no periods. I was on Depo for years and never got a period. I really feel that played a role in my not having IV meds for 19 years!
So if you have lung trouble around the time of your period what do you do?
What kind of birth control are you on?
If you take a form of birth control that lightens or eliminates your periods do you have less lung flare ups then before the birth control.

And another question. Do you worry about hormone birth control and the increased risk of blood clots especially when doing IV's?

OH Anne!

It is very commong for woman CFers to have issues around their period. There isnt a lot of studies done yet, but just about all doctors will tell you that their female patients have issues.

I have very hard times on some months, but I have NEVER used any birth control with hormones in it. Some woman have used birth control just for the affect on their CF.

The IUD I use is a 10 year unlike Merena it has no hormones.

I hope you get relief!

I've only had a few periods over the past few years due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. I have noticed increased coughing/mucus and also fatigue and aches. Once I'm past the baby making stage I will probably ask for some type of hormonal manipulation, maybe skipping cycles every so often (particularly during the coldest months). I'd love it if I could just use Nuvaring for that since it doesn't cause me to have yeast overgrowth.
