Magic of Broth

I have been looking at the history and benefits of some old techniques used in cooking and preparing food. It may have something to do with the fact that it is 4 degrees this week, but I discovered some great information about the value of homemade broth. I thought I'd share it with you all. Check it out if you like:

Thank you very much Jody for sharing all of this valuable information. I am going to use these recipes next week when I get back from my long weekend trip.

I was curious when you mention vinager, are you referring to apple cider vinager? Just curious.

You are a GREAT MOM<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Everytime I read something you write, I just think to myself, how blessed your children are to have you as their Mother.

Thanks...the recipes did not specify a type of vinegar...I use white but I would suppose others might be nice. It won't lend too much to the flavor but it draws out the nutrients from the bones during cooking.

I am off to get supplies for the beef and fish stocks today...in my long johns!

My mum and grandmas always had soup brewing on the stove <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I carry on the tradition as well. I load them up with vege's as well. I will try the vinegar next time.

Kj is a home made soup lover, she will actually have seconds and sometimes thirds <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am so glad to bring back real broth to my family. I love the smell in the house. Our kids love soups too. What's your absolute favorite comfort soup? My mom made me beef barley after my daughter was born...it was the only thing that made me feel better at the time. So it gets a huge vote. She also always made chicken noodle for colds with lots of garlic...now I do it for mine.

I love chicken, vegetable and noodle soup the best. Zuchini soup next, then pumpkin then pea and ham.

But I pretty much love all home made soups

I love the smell of them cooking too <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The wife and I are both good cooks and we make our soup at least three times a month. I suppose being Scottish it is quite a tradition to have soups on the go, I learned from my mother, but mostly I make it up as I go.
Do you have a big 'Jennie' pot, we have two, one bigger than the other. The biggest must hold at least two gallons, trouble is that we often make so much soup that we end up feeding the kids on the street, they dont mind though. My fave soup is beef mince, potato and tomato.
