manuka honey

I heard about this from a health talk show. Callers had many good things to report about its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is also used for digestive issue like reflux.

My husband bought some from his health food dealer so we'll probably have the boys try it. I'm curious if anyone else had used it.

I tried using this last year. taking spoonfuls and gargling it twice a day. It's very expensive in the UK and comes in a variety of strenghts (I think 25 or 30 having the highest antibacterial properties). I didn't notice any improvement with it, but the research is interesting (I read that it killed cepacaia in a petri dish - not that I culture that).

Just remember not to use it in hot drinks or anything, as the heat will kill off the antibacterial properties.

Let us know how you go.

Such an interesting topic. My mom is a lavender farmer and bee keeper in Michigan but she spends our winters in Australia. She has sent me Manuka honey many times. There is a whole line of products. She swears up and down by the healing properties of both honey and lavender, and not just because she works with it! I will be interested to see if it works for anyone here. We do give it to both kids when they have coughs from a cold, if nothing else, they love the taste!

We gave it about 2 months but we didn't really see any changes. We really wanted it to work because we loved the idea of it and it tasted great, but it was too expensive to use it that way.
