Med making you loopy?

My husband has CF and for the past several months, I have noticed that he gets "loopy" in the evening...it is almost like he is drunk. He slurs his speech somewhat and has trouble concentrating, etc. We (and by we, I mostly mean me) have been trying to figure out what is causing it. He doesn't seem to be too concerned about it, but it really bothers me. For some reason he won't ask his doctors about it either...so I am wondering if anyone has experienced this. As far as I know (my husband is really independent when it comes to this stuff, so that is why I don't know precisely what he is doing, etc.) he take Nadalol (for portal-hypertension) and insulin (Lantis) in the evenings. He may also take his azyithromacin (sorry about the spelling) around that time.

Thanks!

If you can't figure it out, and he won't talk to his doc about it... you should bring it up. His health matters as much to you as it does to him. Mike sometimes brings stuff up at my appointments, and I don't care, because I know he's just concerned.

I am guessing since he takes Lantus that he is diabetic. If he is diabetic does he check his blood sugar when he gets "loopy"? Does he take ANY fast acting insulin?

I am asking because when my blood sugar drops low I can get kind of "loopy" I can become disoriented, I almost always slur my speech, headaches, jittery at times, sweaty (mostly on my face, hands and underarms - not necessarily all over) sometimes my hearing can fade away and I almost become temporarily deaf - sometimes people experience temporary blindness.

These are all symptoms of LOW blood sugar. If that is the problem then it is easily fixed by him eating a snack or talking to someone about lowering his insulin intake.

I am not sure about the other meds and how they might affect him. I would definitely check his blood sugars though and just make sure that is not the problem.

Take Care,
Lindsey

I talked to him about it again this morning and he did talk to one of his doctors and he thinks that it is an insulin delievery issue--him injecting his insulin into muscle instead of fat. So he is going to try to use a different place to inject the insulin, etc. I think I made my post out of frustration last night!

One of my friend's mother's is a type 1 diabetic, and recently she has been getting that way in the evenings a lot too- my friend thinks it is worse when she has had a glass of wine... (affecting her blood sugar somehow, not that one glass gets her drunk as a skunk )
