Med Ques. - for everyone

This thought popped into my head earlier today and I figured I would ask here and see if I was alone with this "problem" so to speak.

I have been on several different meds my entire life. Ranging from the Ultrase/Pancreas, Albuterol, Pulmozyme, insulins and so on to drugs that I only take when I am trying to get over an infection and all. I have in the past (teenage years) had my rebelious times where I didn't want to take ANY meds - but I always got over it. As of late I have been doing really well and been doing all my meds on schedule.

I found this though .. no matter how hard I try I always forget to do my Advair inhaler. I usually remember - when it is not time for me to do it or when I am out and don't have access to it. I was just wondering if anyone here has a med that no matter what they do or how hard they try to remember for one reason or another they block it out of their mind. Like I said I can get all my other meds down like clockwork, but my brain seems to shut down when it comes to the Advair - when I was younger I for whatever reason always forgot my enzymes (you would think I would have remembered those seeing as how often we take them) thank goodness I have no problem remembering those now. Like I said I am just wodering if anyone else has "memory loss" when it comes to any of their meds. I am not looking to be lectured on the importance of remembering (I already know that and am working on it) I just found it odd that I never forget the other meds but 75% of the time have a hard time remembering my inhaler.

Hey, been hearing alot about you on these forums latley. people were worried about you!

Anyways, yeah. I know the problem ALL too well. Also, you just reminded me to get to it and get my treatments done! o_O (thanks! XD)

I forget constantly, no matter how consistant I am with my meds/treatments. So yeah, you aren't alone in this.

Yeah I have been MIA the past few weeks - took a "vaca" to the hospital - not exactly the Hilton, but it works. Luckily I am at home on home IVs now for about another week and am doing much much better.

Oddly enough, one thing I have ALWAYS been militant about, is my meds in any form, and even my percushion oriented therapy, and IV's if I was on them. Just not too long ago while leaving my mom started to cry when I was leaving for work, and I asked her what was wrong. She said something like "I just have never told you how you have so impressed me with no matter how you felt, or no matter what was going on and what a pain it was, you always did your meds and treatments". No idea why I have always been this way.

Oh my gosh yes, I still forget enzymes on occasion...totally sucks...and you know i'm not liking myself much when i do that. and i swear anytime a new thing gets added it takes me a while to get it to become "clockwork" the most recent hard one for me was zythro, it's just another pill right so why is it than when i'm taking all my other pills for the day i always froget that one? I'm supposed to take it everyday I am currently averaging about 4-5 days a week., but hey thats up from 2!

Isn't the Zithro recommended dose 3x per week. I'm curious why you are perscribed everyday?

Forgot to add, I always forget my Advair too. It is weird, everything else I am fine with, but I forget Advair 50% of the time, and sometimes I forget if I did it or not.

I occasionally forget to take my night med of Symbicort and Ventolin, but that's only when I'm feeling super good and have no breathing problems. When I go out for dinner I do on the occasion forget my enzymes.

I was going to tell you guys about something cool that I had read about memory, but I forgot what it was. I think it might have been related to alzhiemers though i'm not sure. By the way nice to meet you guys, my name is Sean Davis. Have I told you guys about Oregano Oil?

I'm guilty, I too forget my enzymes, azithro on occasion, you would think we would get it down pat after awhile. Especially the enzymes, I have been on them now for 26 years, how do you forget something like that. Crazy, I still have no idea why, but it does happen.

There are different schools of thought on this, he gave me the choice of everyday or every other day, I totally screw up stuff that's every other day becasue i can never remember when I took it, so I just opted for everyday to make it easier for my tiny brain.

I keep mine in my bathroom near my toothbrush so when I wash up in the am/pm &/or brush my teeth I remember. I thought about the moisture in the bathroom, but it hasnt caused a problem yet. I use to keep it in the drawer with my bottles of meds, but it so often got pushed to the back or something so I would forget. I have also kept it in the little case where I keep my albeuterol & pulmicort (which is actually the case for the neb itself) & that works well as long as I do my nebs. I am always in the bathroom so I figured that was the best spot!

I forget to take one of my doses for bactrim, its a pill. and I have a hard time doing the sinus rinse, not that I forget it I just am lazy. When I was younger the enzymes is what I would forget to take and plus I didn't like to do treatments because I felt they were pointless, but now I take them religously.

Lindsey,

I have the same problem but it is sort of the opposite. Taking all the meds/nebs I do I sometimes forget that I have already taken them. I will end of in front of my medicine cabinet(a kitchen cabinet stacked 3 shelves tall with my meds) wondering if I already took something or not. I know that sounds bad but it happens routinely.

It's so funny that you bring that up cuz I have the hardest time remembering my Flovent Inhaler. I dunno what it is - I just can't remember.

So this is what I do - I set up a reminder on Microsoft Outlook. I always have it open to check my email, so two times a day, a little reminder pops up (while I'm doing my Vest, which I also use while on my computer) that says "remember your flovent!" It was really easy to set up (I can send you step-by-step instructions) and it's been really helpful in reminding me. As soon as I'm done with my Vest, I do my Flovent right away.

Then I figured out I was having trouble remembing my Zithromax. I'm such a routine person - and Zithro is every other day so I was forgetting. I have an every other day reminder on Outlook now and I never miss a dose!

Hopefully this helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I'm actually allergic to Zythromax. o_O</end quote></div>

Wow' that's amazing that you're allergic to Zithromax. Less than 1% of the population has a true macrolide allergy.

How did you determine that you're allergic to it?

That is awesome Amy. You will definitely have to send me the steps on how to set that up. I do the same thing usually - I play on the comp when I do my aerosols and my vest so that would probably work great for me too.

Oh I mean, there have been a time or two where I have forgotten my meds at the house and was late taking them or something similar. I have actually had to skip a dose due to running out of something once or twice, but in all my years, I have always been up on my meds and treatments. Might have something to do with my high PFT's at my age with CF.
