Interesting. I never even thought about wearing one, I like them though.
So here's a questions, I don't want my bracelet to broadcast "LOOK! I HAVE CF!", is there some kind of prescribing number for CF? Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about, but... like a reference code or something that is general to CF?

I have had one for years, since I was in college. My roommates didn't know much about CF, and I am on meds and have allergies.

I use Medic Alert and they have some cheap but cute designs. I prefer Medic Alert because you can update your info online and keep it up to date, and it allows first responders important info you need emergency care. I have two silver colored bracelets, one with a pink emblem and one with a blue emblem. They also have designer styles, fabric bands (great for kids), etc.

If you are on the fence - think about what in your medical history would it be important for someone to know should you be unable to speak for yourself. Not every person with CF may find the need for one, but I personally do. <b>If any part of your condition(s) or meds might effect or be effected by a common treatment for let's say a broken leg (anesthesia, blood products like thinners or coagulants, drug allergies, dextrose via IV), then I would suggest you consider it.</b>

It's so important to keep info current, though - meds, conditions, doctor info, allergies, etc. Updates are FREE and unlimited, and you can print out a piece of paper to bring with you when seeing a new doc or having surgery, etc.

I needed to get one for Emily when she was two. And while I needed it to be recognized for what it was by emergency personnel if needed, I really didn't want it screaming out to everyone that looked at her 'my baby has a medical condition!' so I get what you are saying. Two thoughts: You can have your condition engraved on the back of the emblem if you want some privacy there. And you can get plain engraving of the medical caduceus emblem, rather than that brightly colored raised symbol you generally see plastered on the bracelets.

Medic Alert is the service I like most due to the data base they keep that includes all of your contact information, dr. information, and easy to update info about all of your medical conditions, meds, allergies, etc. No other service that I know of offers anything like this. (I believe you can get one of those usb things through them too- at least you could a couple yrs ago. I haven't looked into it recently.) Emergency personnel can get that info in seconds by dialing the toll-free number on the bracelet and giving your ID#; so you really do not have to have too much info at all on the actual bracelet.
