Mercy on NBC

To be completely fair, he had a complication that resulted in not getting the transplant.

In my opinion... Everything WAS too 'compressed' to be realistic for a cf patient, but keep in mind, ALL episodes of this show take place over a couple day period and have multiple plot lines running at the same time, all needing to be covered in about 42 minutes of air time. Personally, I was happy to see any coverage of CF with at least some accuracy with what they did cover (i.e. a legit cf infection and featuring the vest. The diner thing was part of the interplay between the characters involved and very obviously not intended to be taken seriously as something a typical cf patient would do.)

This is Hollywood, not a medical documentary... any number of medical conditions are portrayed less than realistically on these shows- we certainly wouldn't have the knowledge base to know otherwise, after all, when they aren't conditions affecting us. I doubt any of us demean or minimize others with various other medical conditions based on what we see on these shows (or I sure hope we don't!)

I don't watch the show, but I"ve wanted to see this episode since it first aired a couple months ago.

I finally watched it (most of it) tonight. I called my daughters over to see the vest and they laughed and laughed to see him using it in the cafe while eating a hanmburger. Emily asked where his enzymes were.

The part about the transplant was SO ridiculous. The doctor walks in, says he needs a transplant and he goes from "are you serious" to "let's do it" Just like that! But, at least they got some of the terminology right, and yes, any awareness is good awareness.

When the show first aired I had several people tell me they saw it and a few even asked when we'd be fundraising again, so that's good!

My favorite part was the end when he sang "Don't you forget about me." I love his little asides...Don't you forget about me (when I die from cystic fibrosis..that's right, I can promounce my own disease!) So typical of the morbid humour that seems so common among CF adults.

And, I admit, I cried when he said something to the effect of "They've been telling me I'm going to die my whole life.
I just want to live for a minute before I"m gone. I jsut want to know what's its like to be normal." They got that part just right, I thought.

By the way, we spied a vest compressor on a recent episode of Hannah Montanna. The vest wasn't there, but the compressor was. Miley was in a hospital for something and it was part of the hospital room set. Weird random thing to have in a general hospital room, but, whatever. My girls got a huge kick out of it!!!
